چکیده

background and objective: alzheimer’s disease (ad) is a multifactorial disease with debilitating consequences and few therapeutic strategies exist for it. with regard to antioxidant capacity and anti-β-amyloid polymerization potential of ellagic acid, this study was conducted to evaluate the effect of this substance on enhanced acetylcholinesterase reactivity in an experimental model of alzheimer′s disease induced by beta amyloid25-35 in the rat.materials and methods: in this experimental study, 32 male wistar rats were divided into 4 equal groups, i.e. sham, treated-sham, alzheimeric, and treated-alzheimeric. for induction of ad, 2 µl of β-amyloid 25-35 (10 µg/2 µl) was microinjected bilaterally into ca1 of the dorsal hippocampus. the daily treatment with ellagic acid was done for one week at a dose of 10 mg/kg (i.p.) till 1 h pre-surgery. at third week after surgery, histochemistry for acetylcholinesterase reactivity was performed. results: alzheimeric group showed enhanced reactivity for acetylcholinesterase in dorsal hippocampus that was significant as compared to sham group (pconclusion: pretreatment of beta amyloid-induced-alzheimeric rats by ellagic acid could ameliorate acetylcholinesterase reactivity in the dorsal hippocampus and this could possibly improve memory deterioration in ad.

Ellagic acid improves hyperalgesia and cognitive deficiency in 6-hydroxidopamine induced rat model of Parkinson’s disease

Objective(s):Parkinson's disease (PD) is known for motor impairments. But often, there are non-motor symptoms such as cognitive deficiency and pain misperception, owing to possible role of nigrostriatal pathway. Antioxidants have protective effect on free radical-induced neuronal damage in PD. To further address, we examined the effects of ellagic acid (EA) in a rat model of PD induced by 6-hyd...

Ellagic acid improved arrhythmias induced by CaCL2 in the rat stress model

Objective: In ventricular arrhythmias, due to their free radical scavenging action, antioxidant agents are usually used in the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Since stress is considered as risk factor for increased mortality by causing malignant arrhythmias, the study was designed to evaluate the cardioprotective effects of ellagic acid (EA) on CaCl2-induced arrhythmias in rat stress model...

Ellagic Acid Protects the Brain Against 6-Hydroxydopamine Induced Neuroinflammation in a Rat Model of Parkinson’s Disease

Introduction: Neuroinflammation may play as an important risk factor in progressive degeneration of dopaminergic cells. Antioxidants have protective effects against free radicalsinduced neural damage in Parkinson’s disease (PD). In the present study, we examined the effects of ellagic acid (EA) on locomotion and neuroinflammatory biomarkers in a rat model of PD induced by 6-hydroxidopamin...

Protective effect of chlorogenic acid in an experimental model of Parkinson’s disease induced by 6-hydroxydopamine in rats

Introdution: Parkinson's disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease. Considering the antioxidant and neuroprotective properties of chlorogenic acid, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the neuroprotective effect of this substance in an experimental model of Parkinson's disease. Methods: In this experimental study, Wisar male rats (n = 32) were divided into 4 groups: sham...
